AMONG WORLD'S LARGEST, FASTEST HYDROFOILS,
THE 'FAIRLIGHT'

Sydney's premier tourist attraction, and no wonder! A trip on the big Hydrofoil, the 'Fairlight,' is the most exhilarating way to see Sydney's famous Harbour. You can enjoy a smooth 15-minute trip to Manly, or a half-hour excursion cruise which covers both sides of the harbour and, weather permitting, a thrilling journey outside the Heads.
The Hydrofoil operates as a normal boat approaching berths and in Circular Quay, then, as speed increases to 15 mph, she rises on her hydrofoils and accelerates to 40 mph in seconds. The 'Fairlight' went into service on the 5.05 p.m. from Circular Quay to Manly on 11th November, 1966.
It's one of the world's largest and fastest Hydrofoils operating as a passenger-carrying craft (only one other in the world has equal passenger capacity). The vessel is 95 feet long, 36 feet wide over the front foils, has a full load displacement of 65.6 tons, and a cruising speed of approx. 40 mph. Built in Messina, Italy, by shipyard L. Rodriquez, it is powered by twin Mercedes-Benz diesel engines, manufactured in Germany, driving twin propellers mounted rear of the stern Hydrofoils. Beautifully appointed and decorated with carpeted floors and soft, luxurious, foam-filled aircraft type seating. The front cabin carries 53 passengers, the rear 65 and the top cabin 22. Passengers may move about whilst vessel is inside the Harbour.
This is a thrill you shouldn't miss! Services from Circular Quay from 7.15 a.m. continuously seven days a week, as well as regular half-hour excursions. Timetable varies according to season.
