Organisation Structure

In 1996/97 the Board and Chief Executive managed a decentralised organisation structure (as shown below) focussed on three business groups - Sydney Ferries, Sydney Buses and Newcastle Bus & Ferry Services - supported by Corporate Policy & Resources for information technology, human resources and financial advice.

At the end of the financial year, State Transit was reviewing its senior management reporting arrangements to:-
  • provide more operational autonomy to line managers,
  • establish depots as individual cost centres,
  • eliminate perceptions of corporate/business unit demarcations,
  • provide a clear structure for driving quality and setting standards across the organisation,
  • establish a co-ordinated approach to public relations and marketing,
  • establish a co-ordinated system for Human Resources, and
  • improve communications across the organisation.
